Jordan, adopted by Janet & Tim

“Just thought I would drop you a line and let you know how wonderful Jordan is doing.

She has fit in so well with Max and she loves my husband and daughters. In the yard, she runs around in circles and Max can't keep up so he just stands there and barks, the more he barks the more she runs!!

She is eating great and getting lots of treats and we have taken her for car rides which she loves!!

I want to thank you for taking good care of Jordan and for all your kindness throughout the adoption process. You are great people.

I will keep in touch and let you know how Jordan is doing and when we are ready for our 2nd hound!!”

~Janet Wagner

This juvenile has been taken into custody. Because of her age, authorities will only identify her as "Sweet Ashley".

News from Grey Haven

With a huge sigh of relief we are happy to report both humans and hounds are safe and sound at Grey Haven in Sparr, Florida.

Marilyn and Bob are still cleaning up from Jeanne and awaiting their power to be restored. There will be many projects and repairs in the weeks and months ahead.

They thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers over the past weeks. It worked as everyone is okay and things that have been undone by the hurricanes are fixable.

After living through 4 hurricanes in such a short time period, many things about their world have literally been turned upside down.

They hope to have things in order to be able to make the trip to Dewey. It is a much deserved vacation and they look forward to seeing everyone and enjoying time together!

Thank you Marilyn and Bob for your continued hard work day in and out to rescue as many greys as possible. We all love and appreciate you, especially the greys!

And a special thank you also to volunteers Kathy Gleason and Heidi Gehret for their marathon trip down to Grey Haven to deliver emergency supplies.

GREYHOUND SAFETY

Collars, Leads and Tags OH YES!!

When you adopted your greyhound you made a promise of safety to your greyhound and to GAF. The promise to have proper ID tags on your greyhound at all times and never to let your greyhound off leash in an open area. Please never deviate from this commitment.

Your greyhound’s life and safety depends on you making smart decisions for him or her. A greyhound that makes it to an adoption group is one of the lucky ones. Thousands of greyhounds are destroyed each year. A greyhound will NEVER be trained to

  • Speak the English language to recite its address and phone # if lost

  • “Come” on command because they are sight hounds and their instinct to chase will always override any command training.
For your greyhound to make it to your home required fate and many people volunteering their time, effort, energy and love. Your greyhound has been given a chance to live…a chance to love…please keep him or her safe.

Greyhound Healthcare

NAILS—DOGGIE MANICURES

Greyhounds are used to having their nails trimmed while they stand. Just lean over and bend each foot backwards, so that you can see the underside of the nail. If you do a little bit regularly, then you don't have to worry about causing the dog to bleed.

If you're nervous about trimming the nails, ask your vet or local groomer to show you how much to trim

Greyhound toes and nails are longer than the average dog, but will still need to be clipped. Make sure you have styptic powder on hand when you do this to stop the bleeding.

Greyhound Adoptions of Florida is participating in the e-Scrip program. This program works by having supporters register their grocery loyalty cards, debit, ATM, and credit cards with up to three charitable organizations. When supporters use these cards at participating merchants, the merchants contribute a percentage of the sale to the designated organization(s).

To sign up, visit www.escrip.com. GAF's group ID is 155001774. Please check out the website to see if merchants that you use frequently participate in the program. And tell your family and friends. The more supporters we have, the more money we can raise to help the greyhounds!

Meet And Greet Schedule

We want to thank all hounds and humans that contribute to a very successful Meet and Greet schedule each month. These volunteers are often the initial contact with many potential greyhound homes. Our best efforts and professional impression are the starting point for good working relationships with our adopters.

While M&G’s are an opportunity to see others, it is important that the M&G maintain a business focus. Its purpose is to give the public an opportunity to see greyhounds and ask questions about the greyhound breed. Our goal is to be courteous to the stores need to function as a business. This is accomplished by maintaining a reasonable number of humans and hounds at each event.

We ask that you contact the M&G coordinator to inquire about attending an event. We are guests and always want to be welcomed back to these establishments. GAFNE thanks all the businesses who welcome us to their stores in our efforts to help more greyhounds!
