Progressive Covers Pets
in An Accident

Does your greyhound enjoy riding in the car with you? If so, you should know that until this fall no insurance company covered injuries sustained by pets in a vehicle accident.

Progressive Insurance now offers the opportunity to cover both canine and feline passengers at no additional charge. The coverage also extends if your pet is riding in a vehicle other than the insured.

The unique benefit offered by Progressive is something to keep in mind if you are shopping for car insurance or thinking about changing providers in the near future. Even if you four legged-friends don't go on regular rides, any car ride - to the vet, groomer, PetSmart or on vacation poses a potential risk for an accident.

The Memorial Garden at Grey Haven

During the excitement of the holiday season we pause to remember those who are no longer with us. This year the greyhound community lost one of its hardest workers, Bob Varnberg. Bob remains in the hearts of the many greyhounds he helped, as well the many humans who called him friend. Others have lost loved ones too this year, including beloved pets.

The Memorial Garden at Grey Haven, also known as "Freedom's Garden", was completed earlier in the year following Bob's passing. The transformation of an unused plot of land to a formal garden full of love and memories in a few short months was truly a labor of love. Below are examples of items placed in the garden, each with an inscribed plaque that adorns it.

The Memorial Garden at Grey Haven offers three possibilities to honor loved ones lost:

3' by 8' fence section with commemorative plaque

Granite memorial paver, etched

Paw shaped paver with plaque, small or large

Waiting for Their Forever Home

The following dogs are patiently waiting at their foster homes for a permanent home of their own.

Dylan is a very happy, friendly, outgoing boy. He is waiting for someone that would like to take him on adventures and be his companion. He loves to follow you around and be a part of whatever is happening. He is food motivated which will make teaching him easy. He has learned to sit very nicely for a biscuit and he would thoroughly enjoy learning more! He does well with routine and knows how to tell time! Smart boy!! He is cat friendly.

North Star is a handsome 8 year old fawn in need of a home. He is quiet and loves attention. He’ll stand by your side to get hugs and kisses while his teeth chatter away! He is currently in a foster home with 4 other greys and enjoys their company. A home with another grey would be the perfect home for this sweet, gentle, beautiful boy. He is quite the gentleman in the house yet very much a fast runner in the yard. Will this be the boy who captures your heart?

Beanie is an outgoing, playful, young little girl. She enjoys playing with other doggie friends and having her family close to her. Beanie also loves to play with the stuffies. She is happy only when the toy basket is empty and they are spread out all over the floor. She wags her tail very enthusiastically to let you know that she is thrilled with life. Beanie will probably do best with other canine companions and a family that is there most of the time. She made fast friends with her foster family's young granddaughter. She would also enjoy a fenced area to play. Beanie is not cat friendly.

For as little at $8.99 a month your furry friend* can have his or her own health insurance policy. There are a number of providers available and a wide selection of policies to chose from. Two GAFNE greyhounds have their own policies with Petshealthplan. Both have received treatment for accidents and illness covered by their insurance. Their owner paid for the care at the time of treatment and submitted a claim for reimbursement of 80% of eligible costs after the annual $100 deductible. For more details and a free quote visit: Petshealthplan.com or call 1-800-807-6724 to speak with a customer representative about how best to protect you and your pet against the unexpected.

Adopted and loved by Holly Priestly

Do they make beds larger than king? Our problem with bed space is even worse now that we have one of the Temperpedic beds - the dogs love it as much as we do .... and are constantly pushing the covers down to get the full "nesting" feeling of the bed.
