Thank you for your interest in volunteering for GAFNE! Our volunteers are not just important to the organization -- they are the organization!
Fundraising
Our adoption fee does not cover our costs, so we must fundraise! Fundraising allows us to provide the best of care for our dogs. It pays for vet expenses, medication, food, crates, blankets, collars, leads and much more to care for these greyhounds in need. The farm in Florida has been a big help in providing homes to many greyhounds until they find their permanent home. Marilyn and Bob moved here in 2003 and are in the process of making it manageable place for dogs waiting. They are currently raising money to build a brood/senior kennel. Help us plan and implement fundraising events and donation drives to make this a reality!
Meet & Greets
Meet and Greets are an opportunity for you to share your experience and joy as a greyhound owner with potential adopters. This is also a time of fellowship, a time to get to know other GAFNE members and work toward the common cause of greyhound adoption. Please see the Meet and Greet Guidelines page for detailed information (password required).
Public Outreach
GAF is a fantastic organization, and we need volunteers to help us get the word out through public relations and advertising campaigns. We'd also like to keep in touch with our volunteers and adopters through a newsletter. GAFNE is interested in bringing our group together for socializing ourselves and hounds. We are looking for people to organize activities such as fun runs, walks in local parks, picnics… Does this sound like something you can do?
Foster a Greyhound
Provide a safe home for a dog during the transition from track life to life as a pet! Our fosters provide daily care for a dog, such as feeding, exercise, and vet care (reimbursed). Fosters bring their dogs to meet and greets and home visits so prospective adopters can meet them. We provide support and supplies (as available), and reimburse 100% of vet care. Foster dogs live with us until placement, which is typically a few weeks. Foster families will help us to properly profile all dogs for placement with the right families. Profiling includes cat testing, small animal testing, and small children compatibility. All will stay with us as long as it takes to find the perfect home! Please see the Foster Guidelines page for more information (password required).
Volunteer to Hound Sit
Have you benefited from GAFNE’s hound-sitting service before? Would you like to see your efforts benefit the group? Please consider becoming a Hound Sitter! Volunteer forms are available below.
Follow Up
Adoption does not end our involvement with dogs we place. We stay in touch with adopters to ensure happy endings for our dogs. Volunteers do routine check-ins and provide support and guidance to adopters by email and phone.
We are all volunteers and do not get paid! If you would like to volunteer your time or services, please contact
